Ever since I saw Do As Infinity's latest promo vid a week or so ago, I've been meaning to do this whole side by side comparison of the video it seems to have oh so massively ripped off. I'd like to blame all the moving, but I've only gotten around to it now because I just felt too lazy to do the screen grabs, resizing and editing this kind of thing would require. But hey, here it is, it's Do As Infinity's Mahou no Kotoba versus... Oasis' Whatever. DUN DUN DUNNNN.
You might think it's silly to believe a Japanese group would borrow from an 8 year old British video, but I don't think it is, cos much to my pleasant surprise, Whatever's a big tune in Japan. And I don't mean was, it is now. It's even on this CD that was released a few months ago. Despite the similarities, the Do As Infinity track/video is just bad in comparison. The videos whole formal/wedding theme just makes me scream words like cheese, lame, and suck. The worst part of it? Ryo plays the wrong side of his guitar in more than one scene. And the track itself? It appears as though it was specifically recorded for use as a theme for a TV show... seriously. Jeebus, stuck on a label even worse than Sony, with a songwriting band member who quits his position as an active member just to continue writing your songs, but also for really shitty popstars on the same record label at the same time. That right there is record industry bullshit at it's finest. +: This should've been said on Thursday, but oh well, happy 36th Noel. 36... where does the time go... I'll tell you where it goes, waiting for your woman to finish spending your money in the Chanel shop. +: This entry required way too much effort. |
